Eugene was born in Cleburne, Texas but moved to Ft. Worth when he was 2 weeks old. He grew up, went through high school and lived on Eugene Ave in Ft. Worth; yep, named after him.
In 1969 he married his high school sweetheart Sandra Wines. They have 2 wonderful children, son, Eugene Jr. and daughter, Michelle, 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 1 great grandson.
The Montgomery family grew up surrounded by music. Eugene’s dad, Leo played every instrument imaginable, some unimaginable. Eugene’s Dad taught him to play the guitar around age 18 and at that point he was hooked. Eugene says his brother Bobby is the talented one and that "he can play guitar and sing much better than I can”. Bobby has been the music director for a couple of different churches in the Ft. Worth area. Also, his sister Dianne played piano in church for years and is a very talented pianist.
Eugene was somewhat the black sheep of the family when it came to music. While his Dad, brother and sister were playing music at church, Eugene was playing in every honky-tonk he could find with his group The Green River Band. They played in such places as VFW’s, SPJST and even Ft. Worth’s famous Billy Bob’s.
Eugene and Sandra moved to Granbury, Texas in 2000 and Eugene spent most of his off time playing golf and fishing which are two of his favorite hobbies. Then, Sandra finally talked Eugene into going to Southside Baptist Church a short 5 years later. This was a turning point in his life and he began to use the gifts God had given him for the Lord. Eugene says that he has never been more satisfied with life and he has never had this kind of peace within. Knowing that he is doing what he was called to do, sharing his faith in Jesus Christ with others through music. Much of the music they play and sing has been written by Eugene and comes straight from his heart.
